HUNCHBACK's twenty songs include numerous "instant classics," and several which are candidates to become radio hits. HUNCHBACK is closely based on the classic Victor Hugo novel, The Hunchback of Notre Dame. It avoids the substantial liberties taken by Hollywood film adaptations, and thus retains all the power and pathos of Hugo's original tragedy. about the composer... HUNCHBACK is the second musical written by C. Rainey Lewis, who began her career as a six-year-old professional singer/songwriter in Memphis, Tennessee. She progressed to heading a powerhouse rock and soul band on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, spent several years in Los Angeles as a successful singer and songwriter for movies and TV, and ultimately settled in the Seattle area. Lewis has toured the world performing (under the name "Rainey"), including a six-month stint as featured guest vocalist with French rock icon Johnny Hallyday. She is well known for her amazing vocal talents in both rock and jazz idioms. Entirely self-taught as a performer and composer, Lewis wrote HUNCHBACK music and lyrics over a 3-year period in her home studio. Besides her music, Lewis is a gifted painter and sculptor, and is currently working on her first novel. |
