CASTING ANNOUNCED FOR
THE WORLD PREMIERE OF
THE ROCK MUSICAL "HUNCHBACK"

Tickets On Sale Now For New Rock Musical Playing The King Cat Theatre Beginning October 20, 1998

SEATTLE - Casting is complete for Seattle First Artists Company's production of the new rock musical, HUNCHBACK, which world premieres at Seattle's King Cat Theatre beginning October 20, 1998. Tickets are on sale now for HUNCHBACK by calling Ticketmaster at 206/292-ARTS or visit the HUNCHBACK website at www.hunchback.com. Group discounts are available for parties of ten or more.

HUNCHBACK, written and directed by local performer/composer/writer C. Rainey Lewis, is closely based on the classic Victor Hugo novel, The Hunchback of Notre Dame. This new musical avoids the substantial liberties taken by Hollywood film adaptations, and retains all the power and pathos of Hugo's original tragedy. The score includes twenty original songs from lush ballads to bluesy barrelhouse to soulful R&B, filling out the classic 15th century Parisian tale of Quasimodo, Esmeralda and Frollo. A new recording of music from HUNCHBACK, performed by Rainey Lewis is currently available at Blockbuster, Queen Anne, and Borders Books & Music.

Director Lewis has compiled a performing company of 28 singers, dancers and musicians. The cast includes: Nadia Deleye, Derek Horton, Guy Bogar, Frank Cruz, Meghan Arnette, Theresa Baker, Bryce Cahn, James Clearwater, Jonathan Hochberg, Ilana Long, Stefan Mitchell, and Bhama Roger. The dance ensemble headed by Choreographer Mark J. Kane includes: Richard Ayres, Diana Cardiff, Hassan Christopher, Alison Cockrill, Holly Eckert, Debbie Franz, Kristin S. Gentile, Shawn Hare, Alissa Wehrman, Wendy E. Wherry and Jeremiah C. Wilson.

The musicians for this unique rock musical are: Douglas Barnett (bass), Steve Hill (drums), Michael Eads (guitar), Tom Kellock (keyboards) and violinist Talia Toni Marcus.

Lewis has also assembled a dynamic local production team for HUNCHBACK. They are: Tom Kellock (Musical Director), Bill Forrester (Scenic Designer), Rose Pederson (Costume Designer), Jay Strevey (Lighting Designer) and Frank Video (Video Designer). David Morden is Associate Director and John Kingsbury is Producing Director.

This new musical production plans to combine a timeless story with exciting contemporary music and groundbreaking production technology. Hunchback is a production of Seattle First Artists Company, which believes that if live theatre is to remain competitive in the Electronic Age, it must ultimately provide similarly unique experiences.

As part of this year's Bumbershoot Festival, an abridged performance of HUNCHBACK will be performed at the Bagley Wright Theatre on Sunday, September 6 at 3:15 p.m. Additional shortened previews will be showcased at the Broadway Performance Hall on October 9 and 10. Visit the HUNCHBACK website for further information, at www.hunchback.com.

LOCAL PERFORMER/COMPOSER TO STAGE
WORLD PREMIERE OF "HUNCHBACK"
FOR SEATTLE AUDIENCES

Soundtrack For New Rock Musical, Based On Victor Hugo's Classic Tale, To Be Released April 17th,1998

SEATTLE - Local performer/compser/writer C. R. Lewis has announced the staging of Hunchback, a new and innovative musical, to play the King Cat Theater in October, 1998. C. "Rainey" Lewis conceived of the project and plans to direct the production with a local staff of designers. Hunchback is premiering in Seattle en route to Broadway. A new recording of music from Hunchback, performed by Rainey Lewis, will be available in stores on April 17th, 1998.

Hunchback is the second musical written by Lewis, who began her career as a singer/songwriter in Memphis, Tennessee. She toured the U.S. and Europe with French superstar Johnny Hallyday, and was a three-time winner on television's "Star Search". Having written songs from age five, Rainey's writing credits include collaborations with such stars as Tina Turner and Michael Bolton. She has recorded numerous songs for television and film. In 1990, she began writing Hunchback, which she completed in 1993 after relocating to the Seattle area from Los Angeles.

Hunchback is closely based on the classic Victor Hugo novel, The Hunchback of Notre Dame. This new musical avoids the substantial liberties taken by Hollywood film adaptations and thus retains all the power and pathos of Hugo's original tragedy. The score includes twenty original songs from lush ballads to bluesy barrelhouse to soulful R&B, filling out the classic 15th century Parisian tale of Quasimodo, Esmeralda, and Frollo.

This new musical production plans to combine a timeless story with exciting contemporary music and groundbreaking production technology. Taking advantage of not only the computer age, but the benefit of living in the technologically-fertile Pacific Northwest, Hunchback will incorporate video projections of pre-recorded live action scenes and computer-modeled imagery. Hunchback is a production of Seattle First Artists Company, which believes that if live theater is to remain competitive in the Electronic Age, it must ultimately provide similarly unique experiences.

Lewis has assembled a dynamic local production team for Hunchback. They are: Tom Kellock (Musical Director), Mark J. Kane (Choreographer), Bill Forrester (Scenic Designer), Rose Pederson (Costume Designer), Jay Strevey (Lighting Designer), and Frank Video (Video Designer). Casting will be finalized in June.
